making a TOTEM

I built a TOTEM

A 38-key split ergonomic keyboard with splay
Switches: Choc sunset (tactile)

The board is gorgeous and the resin printed case makes it look like a “real” keyboard. However, something about the layout doesn’t work for me and I constantly hit the wrong keys or hit the space below a column instead of the bottom key in the column. 😭

Soldering the tiny controllers straight to the PCB made me nervous, and soldering to the extra pins through the holes on the back was tough, but it worked. I set it up with a third controller as a dongle to make the batteries in the two halves last longer (usually the “main” side battery dies first because it does all the Bluetooth communication).

This is my first board with splay and I don’t think it makes much difference to me, I wouldn’t bother with splay again. 🤷🏻‍♀️
